Sie wurden kategorisiert, zwangssterilisiert und zu Tode gebracht. In dieser Zeit sollte die deutsche Bevölkerung von diesen Menschen „bereinigt“ werden. Sie galten als minderwertig. Diese Hausarbeit thematisiert die Rassenhygiene, welche in Deutschland zur Zeit des NS-Regimes konsequent durchgeführt wurde. Ich habe mir die Frage der Zuständigkeit gestellt, habe den Anblick eines verwirrt und verwahrlosten Mannes in der Fußgängerzone hinterfragt: Wieso lebt er auf der Straße und wird von der Wohnungslosenhilfe scheinbar nicht erreicht? Und wieso befindet er sich auf Grund seiner offensichtlichen psychischen Erkrankung nicht im psychiatrischen Versorgungssystem?

Die zentrale Fragestellung dieser Arbeit ist: Wieso fallen psychisch kranke Wohnungslose aus den beiden Hilfesystemen heraus und warum existieren keine geeigneten Hilfeformen für sie?
Die Beantwortung dieser Frage besteht in der Ermittlung der Schwierigkeiten, die wohnungslosen psychisch kranken Menschen in die bestehenden Hilfesysteme zu integrieren und aufzuzeigen, wie adäquate Hilfen aussehen und zukünftig aussehen könnten.
Für mich ausgewählt habe ich das Thema zusätzlich, da ich keinerlei Vorerfahrungen im Bereich der Wohnungslosenhilfe und des psychiatrischen Versorgungssystems hatte, mich die Problematik der Betroffenen jedoch mitriss und ich mich nicht damit zufrieden geben wollte, dass in unserer heutigen Zeit diese Menschen immer noch vollständig durch das soziale Netz fallen.
Erst seit den letzten Jahren suchen in Deutschland die Wohnungslosenhilfe und das psychiatrische Versorgungssystem gemeinsam nach Antworten auf diese Fragen. Jedoch gilt es, viele Hindernisse zu überwinden und geeignete Formen der Forschung und Statistik zu finden, um die gegenwärtige Problemlage genauer beschreiben und erkennen zu können. Denn obwohl das challenge psychisch kranker Wohnungsloser in den beiden Hilfesystemen bewusst ist, liefern die meisten bundesdeutschen Untersuchungen kein Datenmaterial, das für die konkrete Planung der psychiatrischen Versorgung von Wohnungslosen herangezogen werden könnte.
