Und dies nicht nur von Laien, sondern auch von Ärzten, Psychologen und Pädagogen, von denen Eltern Hilfe erwarten. Im Kindergartenalter wird den Eltern meist vermittelt: „Das legt sich schon wieder”. Dies kann schwerwiegende Konsequenzen haben. Denn je länger eine individual schweigt, desto mehr manifestiert sich dieses Schweigen. Gerade in der Schule gestaltet sich der Mutismus als challenge. Hier wird mündliche Beteiligung am Unterricht und Eingliederung in den Klassenverband verlangt. Der Lehrer steht vor dem challenge, das sort adäquat benoten und behandeln zu müssen. Mit meiner Arbeit möchte ich dazu beitragen, dass Mutismus bekannter wird und Verständnis für diese Kinder wecken. Vor allem möchte ich Lehrern helfen, einen Weg zu finden, mit diesen Kindern umzugehen und ihnen helfen zu können.

Wie kann guy einen Schüler, der schweigt oder sogar generell die Mitarbeit „verweigert” in den Unterricht integrieren, mit ihm kommunizieren und ihn angemessen fördern? Dieser Frage möchte ich im Haupteil dieser Arbeit nachgehen. Es geht darum, mögliche Kommunikations- und Umgangsformen mit mutistischen Kindern
im Klassenraum sowie Möglichkeiten der sprachheilpädagogischen Intervention durch Lehrer aufzuzeigen. Angesprochen wird auch die Frage nach der Notengebung und Beschulung, die sich den Lehrern und Eltern immer wieder stellt.

Einleitend werde ich mich nach einer Definition des Störungsbildes vor allem mit den verschiedenen Formen, Symptomen und möglichen Ursachen des Mutismus beschäftigen, um das Störungsbild möglichst genau darzustellen und dem Leser einen verstehenden Umgang mit Betroffenen zu ermöglichen. Anschließend werden wichtige Kriterien für die Diagnostik dargestellt, wobei auch auf die Differentialdiagnostik
eingegangen werden soll, um den Mutismus von anderen Störungsbildern abzugrenzen. Wichtig erschienen mir hier im Hinblick auf eine (schulische) Förderung auch förderdiagnostische Fragestellungen. Neben schulischen Interventionsmöglichkeiten werden weitere Therapieformen dargestellt. Sie liefern Anregungen für die Arbeit mit den Kindern und sind wichtig, um Betroffene, deren Angehörige, sowie als Beratungslehrer auch deren Lehrer hinsichtlich sinnvoller Interventionsmöglichkeiten beraten zu können.
